Exclusive Botanical & Mountain Adventure in Crete

AROMAS OF THE WILD

Breathtaking Mountain Views, Herbs, Traditional Villages & the White Mountains

Our day begins bright and early in one of Chania’s remote traditional villages. Far from the city’s noise, we settle into a local kafeneio for an authentic Cretan coffee — the perfect start to experience the island’s slower, more genuine rhythm of life.

From here, the adventure unfolds. Aboard our fully equipped 4×4 vehicles, we venture into untouched mountain trails, passing through ancient olive groves, lush valleys, and wild gorges. This off-road route reveals Crete at its most authentic — raw, untamed, and incredibly scenic.
Keep your eyes open: we may spot wild goats, hawks, or even eagles soaring above us.

Along the journey, we pause at breathtaking viewpoints for photos, short breaks, and a taste of the island’s flavors with traditional Cretan snacks, served picnic-style inside the vehicle.

As we ascend, the landscapes become more striking, with the White Mountains embracing us on all sides — a panoramic sight that stays with you long after the day ends.

To complete the experience, we visit the Botanical Park of Crete. Here, we follow a 1.5-hour shaded walking trail, surrounded by vibrant flora, herbs, and plants gathered from around the world — a peaceful and refreshing end to the adventure.

Not Included

  • Morning coffee & breakfast at the village café

  • Lunch or any meals at the Botanical Park (optional)

  • Personal expenses or extras not mentioned

Authentic Crete: Trails, Villages & Traditions

Village Trails
& Mountain Tales

Discover the true essence of Crete on a unique off-road adventure that blends natural beauty, remote mountain villages, and hands-on cultural experiences.

Our journey begins along scenic trails surrounded by olive groves, orange trees, and avocado orchards.

First Stop (30 min): A nearly abandoned mountain village, where time seems to stand still. Enjoy a peaceful morning coffee in a setting untouched by the modern world.

We continue through isolated villages on our way to Meskla and the impressive Sarakina Gorge.

Stop (30 min): Explore the gorge entrance, take breathtaking photos, and soak in the wild beauty of the landscape.

Next, we head off-road through dense forest trails until we reach a breathtaking high-altitude viewpoint.

Stop (10–15 min): Rest, admire the sweeping mountain views, and discover the wild herbs and aromatic plants that grow naturally in the area.

Our next destination is the mountain village of Drakona — a hidden gem where life follows the rhythms of nature. Here, you’ll experience authentic Cretan village living:

• Pick fresh vegetables straight from the garden
• Feed the farm animals and, depending on the day, observe cow milking or traditional cheese-making
• Discover how local honey is produced — and if we’re lucky, take part in the process

Upon request, guests may enjoy a traditional Cretan meal slow-cooked over a wood fire — a truly authentic farm-to-table experience.

Our return journey passes through the lush Therisso Gorge, with a short stop in the charming village of Therisso to enjoy its traditional atmosphere and, for those interested, browse local Cretan products.

Crete Uncovered: History, Nature & Hidden Wonders

OFF-ROAD THROUGH HISTORY

Our journey begins at the historic Gonia Monastery in Kolymbari, Chania. As we step into this sacred place, it feels as though we are transported back to the 9th century, the time of its founding. The tranquility and spirituality that radiate from the site touch our souls, offering a unique sense of peace and reverence. During our tour, we’ll admire rare and precious ecclesiastical artifacts from various historical periods and cultures, some dating back to the 1500s.

Next, we visit the Cave of Saint John the Hermit, where the saint lived in solitude in the 16th century. Nearby lies the hidden school, a symbol of resistance where Greek children secretly studied during Ottoman rule.

We then head to Vouves village to see the Ancient Olive Tree, estimated to be 2,000–4,000 years old with a trunk nearly 13 meters wide—possibly the oldest fruit-producing olive tree in the world. We’ll also explore the nearby Olive Museum, housed in a 19th-century building, showcasing Crete’s olive-growing heritage.

Our journey continues off-road through majestic mountains, rivers, and lush vegetation, where we may spot wild goats and local herbs like wild oregano. After a short snack break, we ascend to 1,100 meters to visit the Church of Saint John, offering breathtaking views across Chania.

We descend via the mountain’s back side in our 4×4 vehicle, followed by a short walk to a hidden waterfall—a peaceful moment in nature before we head back.

What to bring?
Small snack (optional), backpack with personal items, sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, comfortable clothing & walking shoes
